Migraine is a common and debilitating neurovascular disorder, associated with high levels of healthcare expenditures, loss of productivity, and socioeconomic impact. Although most people with migraine are treated in primary care settings, access to specialized programs are needed to provide care for often refractory cases, education, and to promote innovation. Structured headache medicine programs focus on providing outpatient and inpatient care, with the goals of providing clinical excellence. In addition, research, education, and community engagement are important contributions associated with specialty programs. In this chapter, the role and benefits of structured headache programs in meeting the population’s needs for migraine care are discussed.
