Behavioral interventions for migraine have been shown to be efficacious in improving headache and disability outcomes. Various behavioral interventions have been empirically supported, including psychoeducation, relaxation training, biofeedback, CBT, and third-wave therapies. Most behavioral interventions are delivered in person with a therapist; however, there are also behavioral interventions that can be completed via telehealth. While behavioral interventions have been proven efficacious, there are various barriers: patients may not know about behavioral interventions or where to access them, and they may be resistant to receiving behavioral help due to the stigma associated with mental health. These barriers can be aided by physicians providing referrals utilizing a therapeutic alliance and motivational interviewing.
