Epidemiological information is useful for understanding and evaluating strategies to better diagnose, manage, and prevent diseases. Migraine epidemiology improves our knowledge of the clinical characteristics, pathophysiology, and burden of this global disorder. In addition, population studies are key to quantifying the direct and indirect medical and socioeconomic impact of migraine, which helps us understand the effect of migraine on sufferers, their families, colleagues, employers, and society in general. This chapter aims to provide an overview of the epidemiology, impact, and disability aspects of migraine.
