Migraine is prevalent and affects people during their peak productive years. Many factors contribute to migraine disability: pain intensity, migraine symptoms (including interictal symptoms), the unpredictability of attacks, emotional impact, comorbid conditions and diseases, lack of diagnosis, undermanagement, and stigma. Migraine-related productivity loss is very costly and mostly due to presenteeism. Migraine is the second leading cause of presenteeism in the United States. Workplace intervention programs with education and/or management, advocacy efforts to support the rights of people with migraine and headache diseases, and comprehensive and compassionate medical care can all make a significant difference to help people with migraine and increase their work productivity.
