Wireless Determination of Mechanical Loads During Deep Hole Drilling

Increasing demands on the production of highly resilient components require detailed process knowledge for the realization of efficient processes. In order to optimize production and prevent errors in machining processes, sensor-based monitoring and process control are becoming increasingly important. This is particularly important for deep hole drilling, as drilling is usually one of the last processes in the production of a part. The analysis of drilling processes requires the wireless transmission of sensor data from the rotating tool system. For investigations into BTA deep hole drilling and single-lip deep hole drilling, a measurement system was therefore developed at ISF and validated in the course of experimental analyses that enables the wireless measurement of drilling torque and feed force. Due to the possibility of expanding the number of wireless transmission channels, the system provides the basis for a detailed analysis of deep hole drilling processes using additional sensors.
