Eco-Production of Apparel: Energy- and Water-Efficient Luxury Textiles

This chapter examines how sustainable practices are incorporated into the luxury textile business, emphasizing the sector’s dedication to minimizing its negative environmental effects while upholding high standards of design and quality. It highlights the significance of energy-efficient industrial methods, which are essential for reducing energy usage. The use of renewable energy sources increases fuel and steam efficiency, and compressor technology breakthroughs and thorough energy auditing are some of the important strategies covered. The chapter also explores cutting-edge water-saving methods that drastically lower water use in textile production in addition to energy reduction. These include ozone bleaching, supercritical fluid dyeing, enzymatic treatments, ultrasound technology, and environmentally friendly retting techniques for natural fibres. Advances in textile treatment methods, including digital printing, foam dyeing, air dyeing, enzyme procedures, laser technology, ECOFAST Pure, plasma technology, and supercritical carbon dioxide dyeing, are also covered. These developments lessen the environmental impact of premium fabrics while simultaneously improving fabric properties.
