This study interrogates the unexplored role of social networks in facilitating transformative participatory development outcomes in the Mewat region of India. Despite its proximity to Gurugram and its location within the National Capital Territory of Delhi, the area is still experiencing significant levels of underdevelopment. Identifying research gaps and underpinning the conceptual framework from existing literature, this research focus on assessing how “community” social groups at the unit level promote participatory development through a solidarity approach using social networks. This study challenges the conventional understanding of “community” as an all-encompassing entity and instead emphasizes the need to recognize and incorporate the diverse castes, communities, races and gender(s) prevalent in the region in mainstream research discourse. To achieve the objectives, the study employes a mixed-methods approach combining secondary sources with field survey data to study social networks to explore the development process comprehensively. Drawing upon conceptual and analytical framework, the study employs variables/indicators like social infrastructure, economic activities and political institutions and the analysis was done using cross-tabulation. Qualitative data analysis was performed them-wise and this data was triangulated with quantitative data to achieve the results. The results and discussion advocate a strong policy focus to recognize the critical role that social networks play in accessing resources at “community” levels in the region.

摘要
