Climate Change Impacts Mitigation, and Adaptation through Solidarity Strategies in the Indian Subcontinent
摘要
Climate change denotes alterations in temperature, precipitation, and weather patterns that occur over a large time and space. It is mainly caused by the emission of greenhouse gases (GHGs), especially carbon dioxide (CO2), into the troposphere as a result of anthropogenic activities. It has significant impacts on our planet, including increasing frequency of disasters, loss of ecosystem services and biodiversity, infestation of pests and diseases, degradation of natural resources, economic impacts, water scarcity, impacts on human health, etc. These impacts serve as a hurdle toward attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs) set by the United Nations. Hence, several solidarity approaches such as encouraging the use of green energy to reduce GHG emissions, sustainable land use practices that reduce deforestation and increase carbon sequestration, assisting in the development of climate-smart agriculture to promote sustainable food production, promoting sustainable mobility for the use of public transportation, etc. must be taken into account. However, to implement these approaches, individuals, communities, businesses, and governments must all work together which can be achieved by sharing knowledge and resources, developing innovative solutions, etc. This chapter aims to briefly discuss various solidarity approaches in the Indian subcontinent perspective for sustainable development.
