This study addresses the limited research on residents’ perceived community resilience in ethnic tourism communities. Through a combination of SOR theory and a conceptual model, we examine the relationship between place identity and perceived community resilience, with support for tourism development and spontaneous conservation of tourism resources as mediating variables. The moderating role of the length of residency is also explored. A questionnaire analysis of 613 residents showed that place identity is positively related to support for tourism development and spontaneous conservation of tourism resources, which in turn positively influence perceived community resilience. However, the length of residency does not significantly moderate these effects. Our findings encourage a balanced approach to the sustainable development of ethnic tourism communities. They also underscore the need to maintain alignment between tourism development and destination sustainability.
