Brasswind Families
摘要
This chapter introduces the reader to the various kinds of brass instruments and how some can be grouped into ‘families’. The concept of ‘wrap’, familiar to many brass players is explained. Design features of instruments and mouthpieces that characterise species are discussed, including the properties of the ‘bore profile’ and employing the spectral enrichment concept introduced in Chap. 2 . This approach is used to examine examples of instruments invented as families, with further case studies of interesting models.
