To overcome the difficulty of CFRP material used in bridge hangers, a pin-loaded CFRP strap hanger for through and half-through arch bridge is proposed in this paper. Static tensile tests were performed to investigate the relationship between load and displacement, the ultimate bearing capacity and failure modes. The analysis showed that delamination and longitudinal cracks appeared in the strap during the test. Delamination first appeared at the intersection of straight lines in the strap. With the extension of delamination and longitudinal cracks, brittle fracture occurred in the strap at the intersection of straight lines. The load transfer efficiency of the strap was 79.3% of that of the straight strap. With the increase of wedge angle, the fracture stress increased and the increase gradually decreased. Through tests, the mechanical properties of CFRP strap were assessed, which showed that the novel pin-loaded CFRP strap hangers can compete with the well-established steel hangers.
