摘要
This study discusses the relationship between masculinity norms, emotional regulation and suicidal ideation among young adult males in India according to the gender role norms model and Self-Determination Theory (SDT) given by Mahalik. The study was conducted on 247 Indian males aged 18 to 25, to examine the societal expectations of masculinity, emotional regulation strategies, and suicidal ideation intersect within this demographic. The data was analyzed using regression analysis and correlation analysis using SPSS. The results showed that men exhibiting elevated levels of emotional suppression, dysregulation, and adherence to traditional masculinity norms were at heightened risk of suicidal ideation. Conformity to traditional masculinity norms showed no direct correlation with emotional suppression and dysregulation, emotional dysregulation emerged as a significant predictor of suicidal ideation. But emotional suppression did not exert a significant impact on suicidal ideation. This study draws attention to the importance of targeted interventions addressing emotional regulation challenges in this age group and recommend suicide prevention strategies that take in mind the relationship between masculinity and emotional regulation.
