Food waste is a critical planetary issue, contributing significantly to environmental degradation and food insecurity. The use of black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) for nutrient recovery from food waste presents a sustainable solution to this problem. Black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) excel at breaking down organic waste, converting it into valuable biomass that is rich in proteins and fats, making it acceptable for animal feed and various other applications. This process reduces the volume of waste and mitigates the environmental impacts involved with traditional waste disposal methods such as landfilling and incineration. This explores the significance of BSFL in bioconversion, highlighting its advantages, challenges, and the need for optimized rearing practices to enhance efficiency. Additionally, the application of BSFL in various waste management systems, including composting, anaerobic digestion, and integrated waste management strategies, is discussed. The findings highlight the importance of innovative technologies and policies in promoting sustainable waste management and resource recovery.
