We tested professional classical musicians in major orchestras in Norway and Sweden and compared them to amateur classical musicians. We found that the professional musicians scored significantly higher than the amateurs on moral reasoning and frequency of peak experiences, but that the level of brain integration was similar in both groups. However, the professional musicians scored higher on several other brain-related measures.
