Investigation of Long-Term Sea Level Variation from Satellite Altimeter and Tide Gauge in Southeast Asia Region

The use of satellite altimeters has revolutionised our ability to monitor and understand long-term sea level variations. With advancements in technology, satellite altimetry has become an essential tool for studying global sea level anomalies. The research leverages the capabilities of satellite altimeters, providing global coverage, and combines these observations with the localised and historical records obtained from tide gauges. The synergy of these two datasets enables the identification of trends, patterns, and anomalies in sea level behaviour over time. This method has not only provided us with long-term data but has also been proven to complement and enhance the accuracy of in-situ observations from tide gauges. The data obtained from satellite altimeters, known as Sea Level Anomaly (SLA), has been shown to be in good agreement with tide gauge measurements. It is evident that the sea level anomaly and tidal anomaly exhibit good agreement with a high correlation (>0.89). The findings of this exploration contribute valuable insights to the ongoing discourse on climate change and its repercussions on sea level dynamics. The combined use of satellite altimetry and tide gauge data enhances our comprehension of long-term sea level variations but also provides a foundation for predicting future trends and formulating informed strategies for coastal adaptation and mitigation.
