Nursing, a profession of caritas, seeks to improve the lives of others through the provision of healthcare that heals both the mind and body. In the delivery of healthcare, nurses witness the beginning of life via birth and the end of life in the care of the terminally ill. Hence, the nurse also must, at times, aid the patient/client in the care of the soul. Given the perceptions of purity with the duties of the nurse being focused solely upon the ill and the nurses’ patient-centered approach to caring for those in need of healthcare intervention, dysfunction is seldom equated with this profession of caritas. However, when people care for others, they may neglect themselves. As a result of this neglect of self, self-hate and hate of others may evolve.

摘要
