The MENA region is facing many challenges related to climate change, environmental degradation, urban sprawl, water scarcity, and hazards. However, for several years, multidisciplinary research has focused on using remote sensing and GIS to resolve these dares. The authors present reviewed chapters on strategies for rainwater management and the state of the art of freshwater fishing followed by the contribution of new technologies to identify the possibilities of developing these sectors. The review of the state of the art on marine fauna wealth and then its mapping has enabled the development of the marine fishing sector. Furthermore, exploring the GEE platform with its free access and the richness of its database makes it possible to evaluate and monitor the physical characteristics of the regions. Three main risks in coastal MENA regions are raised: flooding, heat islands and eutrophication. Researchers propose GIS spatial modeling and analysis approaches based on analyzing time series of satellite images to reduce these risks. Remote sensing and GIS applications in urban areas are presented in regions of the Maghreb. These chapters indicate the contribution of these tools to characterize the spatial organization of oases, variation in the spatiotemporal dynamics of plants, and the impact of man on urban expansion. Meanwhile applications in rural areas have dealt with flooding, degradation and variation in land use. The editors bring together experience, methods, models and results that show the way forward and support decision-making on sustainable resource management, landscape planning, risk assessment and monitoring in MENA regions and others. All this is necessary to develop strategies for a strengthened green revolution and an accelerated blue revolution.
