This chapter begins by identifying how theories around subcultures have been intersected to discourses of race, ethnicity and postcolonialism with reference to a number of critics, including Martina Böse, Paul Gilroy and John McLeod. It goes on to explore this area of cultural production in relation to a number of novels: Sam Selvon’s The Lonely Londoners (1956), Gautam Malkani’s Londonstani (2007), Zadie Smith’s White Teeth (2000), Courttia Newland’s Society Within (1999), Karline Smith’s Moss Side Massive (2000) and Alex Wheatle’s East of Acre Lane (2001).
