Training and Development for the Circular Supply Chain Workforce
摘要
The transition to a circular economy requires a completely new way of thinking about resources and their utilisation. Human resources are central to this, as people need to have different skills and attitudes to live according to the principles of the circular economy. This urgent need to close the skills gap is at the centre of our chapter on how we can prepare employees to drive sustainable change. This chapter takes an interdisciplinary approach, highlighting the discrepancies between what is currently expected of employees and what the circular economy actually requires. It argues that training should not only be technical, but must also include systems thinking, collaboration and environmental awareness. It also outlines a broad framework for training that includes various methods, such as innovative training techniques, digital tools or continuous professional development programmes and more. Successful case studies and best practices from different companies are used to show how companies have been able to effectively upskill their employees. In addition, lessons are drawn for each industry and examples are given that can be adopted by others. It also highlights the collaboration between different stakeholders such as governments, educational institutions, industry, etc. to ensure the prioritization of circular skills development. The chapter concludes by envisioning a future where an experienced and circular economy-ready workforce drives sustainable economic development by building a resilient circular economy that produces zero waste. Companies can drive the transformation brought about by circular economy principles, opening the doors to a better future by equipping their employees with the necessary skills.
