This chapter explores the integration of environmental sustainability and cybersecurity within IT infrastructures using Active Directory (AD). It highlights the benefits of enhancing security through systematic policy enforcement and monitoring. It emphasizes the critical role of cybersecurity in today's digital landscape, focusing specifically on AD networks. The chapter also aims to assist security responsible in being updated with the current cybersecurity threats and defense techniques, while also presenting real-world scenarios for AD and infrastructure administration to assess potential risks from internal adversaries. As AD expands to manage many objects and resources, it becomes increasingly essential to have clear and regularly maintained policies in place. Without these safeguards, forgotten or misconfigured objects may slip through the cracks, turning into security vulnerabilities. A lack of attention to detail and ongoing maintenance in AD management can expose an organization to serious risks, highlighting the criticality of thorough and consistent maintenance, inventorying, and monitoring of AD domains. Technical terminology and details of cybersecurity within networks and AD, addressing the gap in public knowledge regarding modern at-tack techniques and the methods employed by bad actors, are also addressed here.
