Medical imaging technology use has grown substantially throughout the world, even in low-resource regions, where it was historically unavailable. Various informatics platforms and technologies play an important role in bridging the gap between low- and high-resource settings in the accessibility of imaging services. Picture archiving and communication system (PACS) platforms have served as a tool that can provide tremendous benefits in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Continual improvements in network infrastructure, declining hardware costs, and adoption of cloud technologies will also make the development of sustainable imaging network solutions easier in the future.

摘要

Medical imaging technology use has grown substantially throughout the world, even in low-resource regions, where it was historically unavailable. Various informatics platforms and technologies play an important role in bridging the gap between low- and high-resource settings in the accessibility of imaging services. Picture archiving and communication system (PACS) platforms have served as a tool that can provide tremendous benefits in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Continual improvements in network infrastructure, declining hardware costs, and adoption of cloud technologies will also make the development of sustainable imaging network solutions easier in the future.
