The Objects of Collecting
摘要
From time immemorial mankind has had a relationship with objects and we have evolved our capabilities to sense and interact with them. Up to the start of the Icon Age, the types of objects that were collected were limited to Physical Objects (such as jewels or plants) and Information Carrier Objects (such as clay tabletsClay tablets or books). Computing introduced digital files such as programs or data and the Icon Age has significantly expanded the types of objects collected: digitised physical objects in 2D or 3D, with the original being retained or destroyed; physicalised digital objects using 2D or 3D printers; NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens); physical objects with Internet of ThingsInternet of Things (IoT) capability; Big DataBig data; and objects created by AI. The impact of Icon Age technology on the way we interact with all these types of objects is described, and aspects such as ownership and legal issues, and forgeriesForgery and fakesFake, are explored.
