IT’s Impact on Collecting Practices
摘要
The Icon Age has created a number of new practices as well as revolutionising others. New practices uncovered were: Equip-Design-Computer System; Equip-Obtain-Subscribe; Deposit-Digitise; Use-Digitise; Maintain-Manage-Digital Systems; Maintain-Protect-Digital Items; Maintain-Protect-Digital Systems; Maintain-Preserve-Digital Items. Examples are provided of the impact that IT has had on collecting practices, and of some of the IT-related troubles that have been experienced. Of the 631 practices that we identified in our analysis of the research materials, over half were found to have been only marginally impacted by IT, if at all. About a third had been revolutionised. The analysis also suggests that IT has tended to make collecting practices slightly easier at the expense of a slight increase in workload. The general conclusion is that that the introduction of IT has resulted in some changes for many collectors but has not had a radical effect on collecting overall.
