This chapter looks at the intricate nature of good and evil, explores their manifestation and proliferation in contemporary society, and presents their contrast from bioethics and traditional ethics perspectives. Although these concepts have roots in human society, their current prevalence is essentially a result of modern capitalist systems. The concept of “human evilization” is introduced to suggest that our societal frameworks, including capitalism and socialism, contribute differently to creating environments conducive to the spread of evil—capitalism—by promoting the proliferation of minor wrongdoings through insatiable desires and socialism by giving rise to significant wrongdoings through oppressive regimes. The discussion concludes with contemplating the difficulty in combating evil, considering its ties to human desires and the power dynamics that shape our world. A thorough examination, ranging from reflections to considerations within the legal and political structure, hints at the challenging nature of eliminating evil owing to its intricate connection with fundamental aspects of human existence.
