Food Consumption Patterns and Sustainability: Results of Empirical Research
摘要
Sustainable behavior refers to an awareness of the long-term consequences of individuals’ everyday actions on the natural and/or social environment. This study focuses on sustainable food consumption, which refers to eating habits, choices, and attitudes that benefit the environment, health, and society. This study aimed to gain deeper insight into food consumption patterns from a sustainability perspective and to relate these patterns to knowledge (or lack of knowledge) about sustainable food consumption. The study used a highly structured questionnaire to collect data from 547 respondents. These data were statistically analyzed via descriptive and inferential statistics, including variance and correlation analyses. The results reveal statistically significant differences in the consumption patterns of sustainable food, which are influenced by the level of knowledge about sustainable food. This study contributes to the literature by highlighting the specific behavioral patterns of sustainable food consumption and examining the role that knowledge plays in shaping individual behavior. The findings highlight the need for targeted educational and policy interventions to promote sustainable food consumption practices across different demographic segments.
