Housing can be considered a wicked problem from both a general and a sustainability viewpoint, as it is a complex issue interconnected with other societal challenges, and it lacks a clear formula for a solution. The wicked framework allows for studying housing and climate-related issues from an interconnected perspective. In addition to the wicked problems framework, this chapter offers a definition and description of sustainable housing, reflecting it to different sustainability dimensions. This study considers sustainable housing mostly from a climate perspective but does not neglect other dimensions. Municipalities must react not only to housing problems concerning ecological sustainability; they are also challenged with issues such as segregation, affordable housing, or diversity and flexibility of apartments. The chapter concludes with a brief analysis of how housing and climate are connected in the city policy documents.
