This chapter focuses on black and white South African school-going girls’ engagement with online porn. Drawing from a new feminist materialist perspective, the study challenges traditional anti-porn feminist narratives that position porn solely as a vehicle of female subjugation and risk. Instead, it considers how girls actively negotiate their encounters with porn, asserting their sexual capacities and right to pleasure and desire while simultaneously critiquing gender inequalities. The research highlights the need for comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) to evolve beyond protectionist discourses, acknowledging girls’ desires and their critical perspectives on porn. By integrating porn into CSE, the study advocates for a more nuanced understanding of sexuality education that aligns with the digital realities of young people today.
