Hospital medicine has been one of the fastest growing specialties in recent years. As clinicians dedicated to improving hospital operations, quality of care, and patient safety, hospitalists have begun to incorporate point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) into routine clinical care. This chapter reviews key aspects of POCUS use by hospitalists, including practice structures and financial models; common diagnostic applications and workflows; development of hospital procedure services; training, certification, and credentialing of hospitalists; equipment and image archiving; and coding and billing of POCUS exams by hospitalists.
