Ultrasound (US) certification pertains to an individual and is the process of acknowledging one’s training and skills. Certification is performed by various certifying professional organizations. Eligibility is dependent on the applicant’s experience and the guidelines of the certifying organization. Certification is not required to perform point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS). A variety of pathways and organizations exist for sonographers and physicians. There are both pros and cons to ultrasound certification.
