In Brazil the powerful concept of continental growth of the Amazonian Craton by accretion of discrete geochronological provinces around an Archean core was developed on the basis of a great number of geochronological data, inspired by African and North-American examples. The delimitation of the geochronological provinces and even their overall validity are being discussed even up to the present time.
