In the 1960ies, the first systematic K-Ar and Rb-Sr radiometric ages were obtained both in the Guianas, Venezuela and Brazil. They established the largely Archean and Paleoproterozoic ages of the Guiana Shield and confirmed the concept of continental drift by comparison with West-African chronology.
