Despite mastering technical skills within trauma resuscitation, leadership skills are sometimes neglected and assumed. A growing body of literature suggests that training focused on leadership, team building, and team training is greatly related to increased team coalition and improved success with outcomes. Within this chapter, we will describe leadership styles and explore the fundamental principles that are needed to build an effective and sustainable foundation to leadership. Great leadership is built on the foundation of emotional intelligence, and leaders need to lead themselves before they can effectively lead others to success and better patient outcomes.
