Trauma remains the leading cause of death during the first four decades of life in the developed world. The burden of illness due to injury is increasing globally. Important strides in reducing death and morbidity have accompanied the development of organized trauma care. Trauma teams which work in synergy are essential for modern trauma centers and systems. The standard trauma care practices taught in Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS®) provide a common language that supports trauma team communication. The application of trauma team dynamics management principles will ensure that the injured receive the greatest chance of survival and the best outcomes.
