Interprofessional Team Roles
摘要
Effective and time-critical care in the trauma patient is reliant on communication, collaboration, and coordination of expertise between trauma team members. Nurses, nurse practitioners, and respiratory therapists are integral to a highly functioning trauma team. The purpose of this chapter is to provide insight into the independent and interdependent aspects of everyone’s taskwork. These are underpinned by important teamwork concepts which are best practiced using simulation-based methodology to ensure each team member feels confident and competent in their role. Teamwork concepts include role clarity, effective leadership, closed-loop communication, situational awareness, mutual support, and effective resource utilization. Deliberate practice can help alleviate the impact of emotion in the moment on a team member’s ability to apply their knowledge and skill. Lastly, we will discuss how these roles are evolving in North America.
