Cross Section of Today: Current Scenarios and Actions Taken to Promote Diversity, Equality, and Inclusivity in Patient Care
摘要
Diversity, equality, and inclusion (DEI) are crucial for delivering high-quality patient care. Effective DEI practices ensure healthcare is fair, accessible, and inclusive for all, promoting equal opportunities regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, ability, or background. Patient-centred care must embrace individual differences and foster a non-judgemental approach from healthcare professionals. This chapter emphasizes that strong DEI policy ensures dignity and respect for all patients. Improving equality and diversity requires addressing barriers, biases, and discrimination in healthcare. Discrimination, whether overt or subtle, affects access to services and must be acknowledged to achieve equality. This chapter examines the current global efforts to promote DEI in patient care, defining key concepts like health equality, which ensures equal treatment while considering individual health and demographics. It emphasizes respecting cultural, belief, and lifestyle differences within the medical field. Despite progress, challenges remain, particularly with race and gender disparities, highlighting the ongoing need for action to ensure equitable healthcare for all.
