Details on the literary corpus of SF by Mexican women are provided followed by a description of the socio-economic context in which it was penned. This is a discussion of how Mexican women writers reimagine traditional icons of science fiction to creatively explore what it means to be a modern woman in relation to three Mexican archetypes of femininity: the Virgin of Guadalupe, La Malinche and Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. It is also a definition of the post-female novum: the optimal state of a deconstructed heteronormative “female” SF heroines strive to reach as they interrogate, experiment and metamorphose towards possibilities of enlightened technologized existence.
