For centuries, numerous people have been coming as pilgrims to the Benedictine monastery Mariastein at the border triangle between Switzerland, France and Germany. Today the groups of visitors are a mirror of religious transformation in Swiss society. Pilgrims are becoming increasingly pluralistic and individualized. In the present article, the authors are reporting on experiences of intercultural and interreligious understanding at a well-known Swiss monastery and place of pilgrimage. With the help of Turner’s ritual theory, they offer new perspectives on a touristic pilgrimage site.

摘要
