This chapter examines advancements in hybrid imaging within nuclear medicine, emphasising the role of Nuclear Medicine Technologists (NMTs) in delivering tailored, patient-centred care. NMTs have transitioned from supportive roles to autonomous professionals actively collaborating with all professional groups in problem solving, optimising images produced, and ensuring patient safety. The integration of Person-Centred Care (PCC) principles underlines the importance of customising diagnostic protocols to address individual needs, enhancing patient comfort, compliance, and clinical outcomes. The chapter delves into the optimisation of hybrid imaging technologies for Conventional Nuclear Medicine, PET/CT, and PET/MR. A dedicated focus has been provided to cardiac imaging, due to the specific challenges of it. The paper addresses challenges such as claustrophobia, mobility limitations, and resource constraints as well as strategies for balancing tailored imaging with standardised protocols. Most of the scenarios explored require rapid decision-making and advanced competencies from the operators, as well as a holistic approach to risk-benefit assessment. For conventional nuclear medicine authors highlighted workflow optimisation for complex diagnostic scenarios, such as staging malignancies or managing patients with comorbidities. The chapter also explores personalised approaches for fragile patients, emphasising the importance of patient preparation, communication, and adherence to radiation safety protocols. The section on cardiac nuclear medicine emphasises the importance of NMTs role for managing patient care while working with innovative myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI). The advancement of competencies includes stress testing as well as technical challenges such as motion artefacts, extracardiac activity, and application of gated protocols. Discussion is focused on tailored scanning protocols and best practices for achieving high diagnostic accuracy while ensuring patient comfort and safety. Throughout the chapter, the integration of emerging technologies, such as long axial field-of-view PET systems and PET/MR for radiotherapy planning, is highlighted as a game-changer for personalised care. To achieve this multidisciplinary approach and robust feedback mechanisms are suggested.
