Comparison of the Different CFD Coupled DEM Models for Polymer Flooding
摘要
Polymer flooding is one of the EOR techniques used in the development of reservoirs to increase oil recovery. In addition, sand production has a damaging impact on the production wells. In this work, we compare CFD-DEM numerical models applied for sand production using different mathematical formulations used in CFD, such as polymer flooding and the modified cohesive contact model in DEM. Several CFD-DEM model implementations are considered with mathematically similar formulations. The polymer flooding in CFD is treated by the non-Newtonian flow using the power-law model. We present numerical results of the sand production rates in weakly consolidated sandstone for the different models.
