In this chapter we study two-dimensional problems without the dependence on one of the three spatial coordinates. In this case, for isotropic materials, Navier’s displacement equation splits into two groups. One is for antiplane problems. The other is for plane-strain problems. We study the former in this chapter and the latter in the next chapter. A few boundary-value problems of rectangular and circular bodies, stress concentration, inclusion, dislocation and crack are solved.
