In this chapter, we develop the nonlinear kinematics of an elastic body with large deformation. The two-point Cartesian tensor notation is used. Various tensors associated with the deformation or deformation rates are defined. The transport and divergence theorems are presented and generalized to the case when there exists a nonmaterial discontinuity surface.
