Gene Array Technology and the Search for Cosmeceutical Actives

Gene array technology enhances our understanding of gene identification and expression in various bacteria and higher species. Various techniques have been utilized to identify and express microorganism genes, but gene array methods excel in their sophistication. This chapter thoroughly explores gene array innovations, emphasizing their significance and potential applications in identifying and controlling genes within microorganisms that produce bioactive compounds with cosmeceutical and anti-aging properties. Bacteria, filamentous fungi, and higher fungi are recognized as prolific producers of metabolites with potential cosmeceutical actives. This technology aligns with SDGs by promoting the sustainable production of bioactive compounds for cosmeceuticals by reducing the reliance on synthetic chemicals, fostering innovation in eco-friendly manufacturing, supporting healthier skincare formulation, and minimizing environmental impact. The primary objective of this chapter is to elaborate on the impact of these bioactive chemicals’ relevant genes, which can be used for skin health in a sustainable and natural manner without potential adverse effects.
