Hair care and styling cosmetics are active in the hair care industry. Different categories of hair care cosmetics include hair cleaning and grooming or styling cosmetics. A third category of hair care cosmetics includes products that preserve hair integrity and help treat scalp and hair problems such as dandruff and dermatitis. The active ingredients present in the cosmeceuticals have multifunctional effects on hair, such as cleansing conditioning, coloring, preserving, etc. The main purpose of cosmeceuticals is to improve hair health, growth, and dermatological problems such as alopecia and preserve the integrity of the hair. Different types of cosmeceuticals containing multifunctional therapeutic agents from plant extracts have been formulated. These types of cosmeceuticals represent sustainable, non-toxic, eco-friendly hair care products that meet the standards of sustainable development goal of good health and well-being along with ensuring safety to the environment by releasing biodegradable chemicals. In this chapter, we will discuss the chemistry and structure of hair, types of hair care cosmetics, sustainable hair cosmeceuticals, and their applications. Different types of hair cosmeceuticals such as shampoos, conditioners, natural hair dyes, and hair growth-promoting formulations will be discussed.
