Postoperative Rehabilitation
摘要
Postoperative (post-op) rehabilitation plays a significant role in desired outcomes following surgery. The overall goals of post-op rehabilitation include protecting the surgical repair, re-establishing joint mobility, strengthening, and eventually returning to activity/sport in a safe manner. As surgeries can vary significantly, so can the post-op rehabilitation protocols. However, effort has been placed to find evidence in terms of standardization of these protocols. In this chapter, established post-op protocols following some of the most common surgeries are discussed. We included surgeries organized by body region: Spine, shoulder, elbow, hand/wrist, hip, knee, and foot/ankle. We also discuss common complications specific to each surgery that providers should be aware of as well as new technologies or more accelerated post-op rehabilitation protocols that may further improve outcomes for certain surgeries.
