Foot pain is common in the adult population, and it is estimated that up to 90% of adults will experience foot pain during their lifetime. Common causes of foot pain include bunion pain and arthritis of the hallux, plantar and retrocalcaneal heel pain, and compression neuropathies such as interdigital neuromas and tarsal tunnel syndrome. The overwhelming majority of patients with foot pain can be treated nonsurgically using modified footwear, orthotics, physical therapy, activity modification, and judicious use of injections. Injection therapy can include local anesthetic injections, platelet-rich plasma, and corticosteroid injections. In general, surgery is not considered until 3–6 months of nonsurgical treatment has failed to relieve the presenting complaints.
