In this chapter, we show how the degree of alignment between the personas’ work location preference and their company’s remote-first strategy, influences Avatars’, Centrists’, and Community-seekers’ work experience. Avatars are in perfect alignment: they work in a remote-first company and have an @home preference. They have become fully committed to their company’s remote-first strategy and are incredibly loyal to their company for adopting this strategy. But, Avatars are oblivious to the existence of Centrist and Community-seeker personas among their own colleagues, and find it curious, almost incredulous, to learn that some may prefer hybrid- or office-based work. Centrists are half-aligned to their company’s remote-first strategy as they have an @hybrid preference. Their work experience includes advocating for a balanced approach to work. They go to the office from time to time to re-experience some of what they believe is lost with the remote-first approach. Community-seekers are in complete misalignment with their company’s remote-first strategy as they have an @office preference. Their lived experience is a bit heartbreaking. Community-seekers talk about being “in absolute hell” working at home where a day could “easily pass without me hearing the sound of my own voice.” In search of humanity, Community-seekers come back to the office regularly, only to find it empty, lifeless, and depressing.

摘要
