The recovery, classification, and proper recycling of microplastics in the environment are considered one of the most pressing, and difficult, tasks towards a better environmental sustainability of our modern society. In this chapter, we will discuss how Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) can help in the identification of microplastics in the environment, thanks to its unequaled characteristics for in situ analysis. The results obtained by several research groups all over the world will be compared with the mainstream analytical techniques, mainly based on infrared spectroscopy or conventional laboratory chemical analysis.

摘要

The recovery, classification, and proper recycling of microplastics in the environment are considered one of the most pressing, and difficult, tasks towards a better environmental sustainability of our modern society. In this chapter, we will discuss how Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) can help in the identification of microplastics in the environment, thanks to its unequaled characteristics for in situ analysis. The results obtained by several research groups all over the world will be compared with the mainstream analytical techniques, mainly based on infrared spectroscopy or conventional laboratory chemical analysis.
