Drawing upon an in-depth examination of literature and case studies, this piece highlights how sustainable design, energy efficiency and waste reduction practices play a vital role in mitigating digital technology's environmental footprint. Key findings of the reviewed literature demonstrate the burgeoning significance of sustainability within digital technology, evidenced by successful initiatives like solar-powered data centers, smart water management systems and green computing projects in GCC countries. Such case studies demonstrate how sustainable practices help decrease environmental footprint while simultaneously increasing operational efficiency. This review also pinpoints critical gaps in current research, such as a need for more extensive lifecycle assessments and sustainable technology solutions that scale. Recommendations were provided for stakeholders including developers, policymakers and businesses in order to encourage further engagement with sustainable digital technology development and research.
