Corporate Towards Diversity and Inclusion for LGBTQ + Employees
摘要
The corporate companies are progressively moving towards more inclusive working environment to achieve diversity and enhance the quality of work with diversified workforce. After the judgment on decriminalizing IPC Sect. 377 which stated that being homosexual is a crime in India, many multinational corporations implemented inclusive workplace policies for the LGBTQ+ personnels who lacked employment opportunities and comfortable working environment due to the constant stigmatization and prejudice encountered in the mainstream society. It is evident through the report of world bank on economic cost of exclusion that India is losing 26 billion dollar a year due to the exclusion of LGBTQ+ community in respect of health care, unemployment, education and other services. Multinational companies are currently concentrating on implementation of sound policies for inclusions. Some of the policies and initiatives are the gender-neutral restrooms, blind application, LGBT streamline networks, Employee Resource Groups, extended medical insurance, child care leave policies, training and sensitization policies etc., In this paper, I have studied various policies and initiatives adopted in multinational companies to create a LGBTQ inclusive workplace, presented an evaluation on how these policies benefit to the growth of the company. The paper also highlights the legal frameworks set up in India for the LGBTQ community and the impact on Indian economy.
