In this chapter the impacts of ableist intrusions are detailed. The chapter shows disabled women limit their daily movements in order to avoid intrusive behaviours. This involves changing routes home even when these routes are less accessible or foregoing their mobility aid so as not to appear visibly disabled. This has significant impacts on their physical and emotional wellbeing. It is often in addition to injuries sustained during the unwanted intrusions where disabled women might be placed in danger or have serious harm caused to them. On a broader level, impacts can involve changing their personality so as to appear ‘smaller’ or avoiding social or work situations where possible. The impacts of these will be clearly articulated as they can result in disabled women being excluded from public life altogether. This will involve looking at not only the emotion work that they are carrying out in managing their lived experiences, but also how this creates a society which is not inclusive and equitable.
